At Frieze Masters 2017, Tommy Simoens is presenting a selection of historical works by Bernd Lohaus, created between 1968 and 1995. Tommy Simoens is honoured to present a solo presentation of Bernd Lohaus, artist and co-founder of Wide White Space. Tommy Simoens: Bernd Lohaus is part of Spotlight at Frieze Masters. Curated by Toby Kamps, the celebrated section features 21 solo presentations by 20th-century artists from Asia, Europe and North and South America.

Yutaka Sone’s Flying Chairs is modeled after a funfair attraction of ying chairs located close to the artist’s marble studio in Chongwu, a small village outside Xiamen in Fujian Province. Yutaka Sone has been studying the ying chairs with his longtime collaborator and studio director Jiang Zhi Xian since 2006. Sone sourced an exceptionally large 2.5 x 2.5 x 2 m block of marble for the production of this piece. Flying Chairs is the most ambitious work in the artist’s amusement series to date.
